I attended Boerne Elementary School, Boerne Middle School, and Boerne High School. I grew up across the street from Sam Champion and my mom worked for the Boerne Library, the Boerne Star, at Flagstop as a cook, and for Boerne ISD teaching special education. This is my home.

After I left the Marine Corps my wife and I knew the only place we wanted to move back to was Boerne. A large part of that decision was the quality of the schools we wanted for our growing family and the unique character of our local communities. The tremendous growth in our area has brought great opportunity, but it also threatens to replace the wonderful aspects of our communities that make them special. It is possible to grow and still retain our unique character. The last thing we need is to become just another cookie cutter suburb of San Antonio. My record over the last five years shows that I'm committed to responsibly managing growth while also preserving our character.

Proven Record

While decreasing taxes to their lowest level in at least 15 years, we have earned HEB Best Small School District in Texas; Region 20 School Board of the Year; were one of the first districts in Texas to open this school year and offered both in-person and on-line options; built, opened, and staffed three new campuses to serve our growing population; provided some of the largest pay and benefit raises for our teachers and staff our district has ever approved; were 1 of only 373 districts in the U.S. and Canada, out of approximately 20,000, to receive the AP District Honor Roll award; as well as many other accolades.

I am most proud of how we handled the unprecedented disruption of COVID-19. Within days of our shutdown last year, and while I was board president, our staff and teachers worked tirelessly to make sure our students had a remote learning option. While many other districts wanted to do nothing, because that was easier, Boerne ISD and our community pulled together and did the hard work to do what we could for our students. We again had to fight this school year to even open at all and provide our parents the opportunity to choose what they thought was best for their children, whether that was our remote learning or on-campus options.

Throughout COVID-19 Boerne ISD has led the way for public schools in our state. I'm proud to have been part of that leadership team and I'm proud of the example we have set. We have a lot of work yet to do and we have a lot of students who we need to help catch up, but our record shows we are up to the challenge and we'll always put our students first.

When I was first elected five years ago I was lucky to join a great board for a great district. From the first minute of my first board meeting I realized I was part of an organization that wanted to always put our students' success first. It took me a while to realize that not every public school district and board is like this. What we have is special.

I am very proud of the role I've played so far in helping make our great district even better. We have increased funding for the arts and extracurricular activities, expanded our athletics offerings, made extensive investments in our Career and Technical Education programs, provided more advanced classes than ever before, and created new positions and assigned significant resources for students who may have fallen behind or need additional help. We have done all this while also rapidly expanding the capacity of our district as more and more people move to our area. We are far from perfect, but I believe every day we get better and that it would be hard to find a better school district in Texas.
